Cursed with Awesome Loot System
Overview
CwA uses the EPGP loot system for progression level 25man gear. This loot system we feel is one of the most fair systems available. It consists of EP ( Effort Points) and GP ( Gear Points) these are divided EP / GP to reach a number called PR (Priority). This system uses decay to prevent hoarding which is prevalent in DKP systems. Ten percent of total EP and GP after each raid night is decayed, thereby creating more rapid turnover in the priority list and effectively punishing those who attempt to 'hoard' their EP/GP.
EPGP Addon
To keep track of EP, GP and PR values, an addon is used. This isn't required but will let you see where you are on the priority list.
EP
Anyone in the raid or online, and available as backup, receives EP (Effort Points) every 15mins. The system takes into account people playing on alts.
GP
Each piece of gear has an assigned GP ( Gear Points) value. When a raid member bids and wins an item that amount is added to the winning raiders GP column. This lowes their PR, making it more difficult for them to outbid others on subsequent loot until they accrue more EP or their GP decays. GP values are on the tooltip if you are running the EPGP addon.
PR
Your Priority rating determines whether or not you will get the piece of gear you bid on. For example, if my Priority is 10 (1000EP / 100GP) and I bid need on 'The Item of Pure Win', and someone elses Priority is 10.5 (1050EP / 100GP) and they also bid need, I lose 'The Item of Pure Win' to that person.
Need vs. Greed Bids
The Loot Master for a raid will announce bidding on a particular item, usually as a raidwarning. Bids are then /w to the Loot Master as 'bid need' or 'bid greed.' Need bids will always supercede 'Greed' bids and indicate to the Raid Leader that the individual who bid need is willing to pay the full GP price for the item. Need bids are most often used for clear upgrades.
The second type of bid is 'Greed', greed bids will never beat need bids, regardless of PR rating. The winner of a greed bid only accrues half of the item's GP value, so the winner doesn't drop quite as far in standing. This type of bid is most often used for getting off-spec gear or sidegrades.
The third type of bid is 'off-hand' and is a sub-type of need/greed bid for weapons. This type has lower priority than straight need/greed bids but costs 1/3 the price for a 1-handed or 1/2 the price for a 2-handed weapon. Most off-hand type weapons are straightforward;
- Shields are off-hand bids
- Caster off-hands are off-hand bids
- Ranged weapons for everyone but hunters are off-hand bids
- Melee weapons for hunters are off-hand bids
- Fast daggers/axes/maces/swords are off-hand weapons for rogues
Fury warriors, Enhancement Shamans and Frost DKs are the exceptions, with no clear off-hand vs main-hand restrictions. These 3 classes use an ilvl rule to prevent conflicts. Any bids on a weapon of higher ilvl than you currently own are need/greed. Any bids on a weapon of equal or lesser ilvl to one you have already won can be off-hand bids.
The priority list for bidding is;
- Need
- Need-offhand
- Greed
- Greed-offhand
Trials and loot
Regardless of PR standing, 'trials' are below all 'raiders' when bidding 'need' on loot. This does not mean that they cannot or will not win anything. Just that members have first dibs on all loot. Trials routinely win items that arent a clear upgrade for members. Once a trial is promoted to raider, they have their GP set to 500 if it happens to be lower than that. This is to avoid brand new members from being at the top of the PR list if they are promoted before acquiring any GP.
Cursed with Awesome specific settings
We currently have our Decay rate set at 10%, a minimum GP of 100 ( meaning you cannot drop below 100 no matter how much you decay) and an EP threshold of 1000 ( meaning you won't show as eligible for loot until you accrue 1000 EP. You can still win loot, however, you are below anyone who has accrued at least 1000 EP in terms of priority) These minimums keep the PR ratio within reasonable ranges.
